Monopoly Money

How Much Money Do Players Receive at the Start of a Game of Monopoly?

Money is a vital element of Monopoly. It is important to know how much money each player should receive at the start of the game.

The Amount Each Player Receives at the Start of the Game

Before starting the game, each player will be given banknotes worth 1500M or 150,000 depending on which version you have. There are 7 types of notes in a game of Monopoly: 1M, 5M, 10M, 20M, 50M, 100M, and 500M. Each player receives equally five 1M notes, one 5M note, two 10M notes, one 20M note, one 50M note, four 100M notes, and two 200M notes, this will make for a total of 1500M. The rest of the money will remain in the bank.

The amount received at the start of the game is always the same regardless of the number of players.

Alternate Rules

  • You can decrease the amount of money given to a player who is older than the others. For example, if the players are under 10 and another is 13 or over, the latter receives fewer banknotes.

  • If you play several rounds and the winner remains the same each round, you can reduce the amount of money given to that player at the start of a new game.

  • It is possible to decide that a player does not receive any money when they go through the starting square.
