Triominos Junior is a variant of Triominos, which itself is derived from the game of dominoes. Triominos Junior is intended for children aged 5 and over, and is played between 2 to 4 players. The objective of the players remains the same as in Triominos: to earn the highest number of points or the highest number of coins. To do this, players must connect 2 triominos ensuring that they have a common side.
Principle and Goal of the Game
- A triomino is a triangle with 3 numbers written on it and those numbers can be different colors.
- The goal of the player will be to connect 2 triominos that have a common side.
- The player earns points or coins by connecting triominos.
- The player’s main objective will be to end the game with the highest possible number of points or coins.

Connecting Triominos
- You can connect 2 triominoes when they have a common side
- A common side implies that the connected numbers and colors are identical.
- The Joker triomino can replace any triomino.
- The joker triomino is the only triomino, which once placed, can be removed from the table.
- Important note: when the joker triomino is removed, it must be replaced by another triomino and this action does not earn points.
Starting the Game
- Spread the triominos face down on the table and mix them.
- Distribute the racks among the players.
- Match the coins to form the bank.
- Each player draws 5 triominos that they secretly place on their rack.
- Each player receives 4 pieces from the bank.
- A starting triomino is drawn and placed face up on the table.
- Important note: if the starting triomino is the joker, it is returned to the draw pile and a new triomino is drawn.
- Determine which player will start.
- Play moves in a clockwise direction.
Course of the Game
Playing With Coins
- This variant is intended for children aged 5 years.
- Once the starting triomino is placed, the first player must connect one of their triominos with it.
- They earn 1 coin and the turn moves to the next player.
- If a player cannot make a connection, they draw a triomino and place it on their rack.
- The player must then pay 1 coin to the bank and the turn passes to the next player.
Playing by Counting the Points
- This variant is intended for children over 5 years old.
- Coins will not be used.
- On a sheet of paper, write down the names of the players to count their points.
- Once the starting triomino is placed, the first player must connect one of their triominos with it.
- The points are then awarded to that player.
- The points earned correspond to the sum of the numbers written on the placed triomino.
- The points earned correspond to the sum of the numbers written on the placed triomino.
Example: 3 + 1 + 2 = 6 points
- If they cannot make a connection, they draw a triomino and place it on their rack.
- The turn then moves to the next player.
End of the Game
- The game ends when a player plays their last triomino.
- However, one last turn is played.
- The game can also end when the last triomino is drawn.
Variant With Reward Counters
- Once the game is over, the reward counters are counted.
- The player who has collected the most reward counters wins the game.
Variant With Points
- Once the game is over, the earned points are counted.
- After that, the points of the triominoes that are still on the rack of each player are subtracted from their earned points.
- The player with the most points is declared the winner.
