Blokus Rules

Blokus is a logic and strategy game, for 2 to 4 players, from 5 years old. The objective of each player is to place the maximum number of pieces of his color on the board.

Contents of the game

1 game board,
84 pieces of 4 different colors.

The pieces

The game board is composed of 400 squares.
A piece can be composed of 1 to 5 squares.
Each of the 21 pieces of the same color is different.

Goal of the game

To place as many pieces of your color as possible on the board.

Set up

Place the game board in the center of the table.
Each player chooses a color and receives 21 pieces of that color.
The turn order is: blue, yellow, red and green.

How do you play the game?

Each player takes turns placing a piece on the board until all the pieces are placed or until the player gets stuck.
On his or her first turn, the player must place his or her first piece at the corner of the board so that a square fills the corner:
Each player will try to connect their pieces.
To connect two pieces, they must touch at the corners:
Two pieces of different colors can still touch each other at the sides:

End of the game

For a player, the game ends when he is blocked; he cannot place any more pieces.
The game continues for the others.
When everyone is blocked, the game ends; the points must be counted.

Counting the points

Each square that is not placed on the board loses 1 point.
15 points are awarded to the player who manages to place all his pieces on the board.
20 points are awarded to the player who has managed to place all his pieces on the board and who has placed the solitary square last.
